Partners in Delivering Quality Care
Our subspecialty trained radiologists work hand-in-hand with our referring providers and their care teams to understand a patient’s history, current condition and healthcare concerns.
The experience of our team, our attention to detail and actionable reports have make Wake Radiology a trusted partner of leading Triangle physicians and healthcare providers for almost 70 years.
Local, physician-directed, independent practice
Wake Radiology remains a local, independent, radiologist-owned practice, led by imaging experts who put patient care first. While we do have a joint venture partnership with UNC REX Healthcare, we are not owned by UNC REX or any other third-party business, a major healthcare conglomerate or national outpatient imaging business. This difference enables us to attract highly skilled clinicians, invest in advanced technologies and maintain convenient outpatient imaging locations across the Triangle.
ABR maintenance of certification
All WakeRad UNC REX physicians voluntarily participate in the ABR maintenance of certification (MOC) program. MOC certification is a rigorous program that recognizes the role ongoing professional development plays in improving the quality of patient care. We’re proud that 100% of our radiologists have earned and maintain their ABR MOC.
True subspecialty interpretations
Our care teams are organized around our physician’s area of subspecialization. This ensures that our outpatient imaging studies are interpreted by a radiologist who is fellowship/subspecialty trained on that topic occur. For example, all spine MRI studies are read by an expert in neuroimaging or orthopedic radiology, and screening mammograms are never interpreted by a pediatric, neuro or MSK radiologist. The elevates the quality and accuracy of our diagnoses.
Technologist subspecialization and national certification
All technologists at WakeRad UNC REX have earned the highest level of certification possible.
- All X-ray technologists are certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Our MRI, CT and mammography technologists have also earned an advanced certification by the ARRT.
- Our ultrasound technologists are certified by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
- Technologists who performs DXA scans have been certified by the ARRT and the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD).
- Our nuclear medicine technologists have been certified through ARRT and the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
Comparison of prior exams
We understands the important role that prior exams play in rendering an informed and thorough interpretation. That’s why we report all previous imaging studies performed at WakeRad UNC REX as well as request and review prior exams performed by other radiology practices. This extra step often provides essential information that helps us create more accurate reports and eliminate duplicative exams.
Actionable, timely reports
WakeRad UNC REX delivers timely actionable reports with supporting details that help physicians to chart appropriate treatments and courses of care. Reports are available through our PACS system or through a referring provider’s EHR. Through these tools, referring providers can view both our reports and patient images.
Imaging services at hospitals
Since 1961, Wake Radiology has proudly provided 24/7 inpatient radiology services to our hospital partners throughout the greater Triangle. Today, our radiologists support patients at UNC REX Healthcare and Maria Parham Health, a Duke LifePoint Hospital in Henderson.
