Partners in Delivering Quality Care
Our subspecialty trained radiologists carefully regard and respect their important role in delivering quality care. Our physicians work hand-in-hand with our referring providers and their care teams to understand a patient’s history, current condition, and healthcare concerns. Our clinical decision support and interpretations can make the difference in a routine or lifesaving healthcare decision. We invite you to learn more about how to view this important partnership and what makes Wake Radiology different from other outpatient imaging providers.
Local, physician-directed, independent practice structured for excellence
Unlike many of our competitors, Wake Radiology remains a local, independent, radiologist-owned practice, led by imaging experts who put patient care first. We are not owned by a third-party business, a major healthcare conglomerate or national outpatient imaging business. This fundamental difference enables us to attract highly skilled clinicians, invest in advanced technologies and maintain convenient outpatient imaging locations across the Triangle. Wake Radiology’s subspecialty structure was adopted due to its ability to improve outcomes. It also helps produce less anxiety for patients and referring providers, improve safety and make better use of the healthcare dollar.
Cost-effective care and conscientious utilization management
Our scheduling staff, technologists and radiologists go to great lengths to see that “the right test is given to the right patient at the right time for the right medical reasons.” We work diligently to refrain from performing unnecessary exams that add unnecessary costs. Our conservative, evidence-based approach, coupled with our enviable accuracy rates, means that we have long been leaders in utilization.
All physicians voluntarily participate in the ABR maintenance of certification program
All Wake Radiology physicians voluntarily participate in the ABR maintenance of certification (MOC) program. MOC certification is a rigorous program that recognizes the role ongoing professional development plays in improving the quality of patient care. It builds on the validity of the initial certification process and evaluates physicians on six key competencies on a continual basis: medical knowledge, patient care, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, practice-based learning and improvement, and systems-based practice. While Wake Radiology’s dedication to these issues pre-dates the establishment of the MOC program, we embrace the opportunity to participate in this specialty-wide effort to raise the bar. We are particularly proud that 100% of our radiologists have earned and maintain their ABR MOC.
True subspecialty interpretations
Wake Radiology’s unique breadth and depth of clinical expertise ensures that all outpatient imaging studies that require interpretation by a radiologist who is fellowship/subspecialty trained on that topic occur. For example, all spine MRI studies are read by an expert in neuroimaging or orthopedic radiology, and screening mammograms are never interpreted by a pediatric, neuro or MSK radiologist. The consistency in our core training enables everyone to deliver skilled interpretations on the more standard diagnostic exams.
Technologist subspecialization and national certification
Wake Radiology technologists have earned the highest level of certification possible.
- All X-ray technologists are certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- For MRI, CT and mammography, they have also earned an advanced certification by the ARRT.
- Our ultrasound technologists are certified by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
- Each technologist who performs DXA has been certified by the ARRT and the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD).
- Our nuclear medicine technologists have been certified through ARRT and the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
Comparison of prior exams for more accurate reports
Wake Radiology understands the important role that prior exams play in rendering an informed and thorough interpretation. We review available digital imaging studies performed at Wake Radiology as well as request and review prior exams performed by other radiology practices. This time-intensive approach has proven invaluable as it delivers essential information needed for more accurate reports and helps eliminate duplicative exams.
Customized approach for optimal imaging
Wake Radiology is truly able to develop individual protocols for each patient exam. Since we don’t answer to outside investors who often dictate patient throughput, we’re able to modify our processes to provide customized, superior care for each patient. We’re also set up to easily respond to specific requests by clinicians.
Diagnostic quality reports and quick turnaround times
Wake Radiology radiologists deliver diagnostic quality reports with supporting details that help physicians to chart the correct course of care. Images are immediately viewable after capture. Reports are often available within an hour (with some exceptions) and they are auto-faxed to providers within 24 hours following the exam. Wake Radiology reports are available online for printing anytime and can be copied to a provider’s electronic health record system. Additionally, our referring physicians can view every digital study a patient has received at any of our Wake Radiology outpatient offices.
Imaging services at hospitals
Since 1961, Wake Radiology has proudly provided 24/7 inpatient radiology services to our hospital partners throughout the greater Triangle. Today, our radiologists support patients at UNC REX Healthcare and Maria Parham Health, a Duke LifePoint Hospital in Henderson.
Our Radiologists are subspecialty trained and come from the finest universities and teaching hospitals in the country. Our physicians are board-certified by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) and provide the comprehensive imaging services patients need whether inpatient, outpatient or being treated in the emergency department.
